Short Biography |
I got my start in photography around the age of 14 in my grandfather's dark room. My two uncles taught me how to use 35mm cameras as well as how to process and print black & white film. I haven't stopped shooting since! During junior high school I photographed assignments for my hometown weekly newspaper, The Clyde Enterprise. When I turned 16 and was able to drive, I started freelancing for the Fremont News-Messenger. I graduated from Ohio University with a degree in Visual Communications in 1998. During my college years I did two internships at the Toledo Blade and one at the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Upon graduation, I was hired as full time photographer at the Sandusky Register. After six months, I left for a full time job at the Toledo Blade. I am now in my 17th year at the Toledo Blade. Along the way, I have photographed many interesting events and people including a Super Bowl and every president since George H.W. Bush. Being in the news business has provided me with a wide array of subjects. In addition to working at The Blade, I am also and adjunct instructor at Owens Community College where I teach digital photography as well as black&white film photography. I also do a limited amount of commercial work. Most importantly, I am a husband to my wife Lauren and a father of my two-year-old son Emerson.
